The ProvenStartups index holds 24 businesses built on or around a Chrome extension; 42% are run by one person. The largest pure extension we track, Closet Tools, makes about $41K a month for one founder. The largest numbers overall come from companies that used a free extension as their way in, then sold something bigger.
How we count: a business is listed if its product is an extension, includes one, or started as one. On October 17, 2026 we removed 14 businesses that only *used* someone else's extension, protect extensions for companies, or had one "in the works."
