"When it comes to the first 100 customers, capture the low-hanging fruit" — meaning comparison pages against every competitor you can find, because that is the cheapest way to piggyback on their traffic.

Joseph has been building since he was fourteen — buying and selling electronics on Craigslist, an organic soy candle business, a clothing company, a digital agency, and finally a venture-funded B2B seafood marketplace in college. Across all of it, one problem kept recurring: it is genuinely hard to demonstrate what a product does. He recorded Looms, they went out of date, and buyers rarely watched them. He kept the idea in his back pocket. When he left the seafood company he came back to it, and before building anything he talked to more than a hundred founders working in B2B SaaS. The unifying answer was that yes, this was painful — people hated making product demos, and specifically they hated the sound of their own voice. That was the signal to run an experiment: can we sell this, will people pay. Super Demo launched about two and a half years before this interview. He showed the metrics tab on camera: slightly over $3 million ARR, just over $250K MRR, growing every month, 150,000-plus users, and a G2 ranking as the number five fastest-growing product of 2025. He had already taken a separate product past $3 million ARR before this one. Our read: this is not a first-timer's story, and the hundred customer conversations before writing code are the part most people skip.
Before writing code, Joseph talked to more than a hundred founders working in B2B SaaS, and the unifying answer was that they hated making product demos and hated the sound of their own voice. That pushed him into a selling experiment rather than a building one.

Data credibility: Founder interview on Starter Story. Joseph showed his internal metrics tab on camera: slightly over $3M ARR and just over $250K MRR. The 150,000+ user count, the traffic-mix percentages (30-40% SEO/LLM, 30% word of mouth, 20% LinkedIn), and the free-tool numbers (20% of traffic, 15-20% visitor-to-signup) are all self-reported and unaudited. The one third-party data point is the G2 ranking as #5 fastest-growing product of 2025, which is a public G2 list. No pricing, cost, churn, or margin figures were disclosed, so ARPU cannot be derived from the user count.
The validation step was a selling experiment. After the hundred conversations, the question he set out to answer was whether people would pay, not whether the thing could be built.
Three loops run at once and they feed each other. Dozens of ungated free tools in adjacent spaces, screenshots and SOPs among them, let a stranger get value with no account and no trial; those now bring roughly 20% of all traffic and convert 15% to 20% of visitors into signups.
The flat stretch in this playbook is structural rather than accidental. Comparison pages, thousands of programmatic demo pages and a library of free tools all pay out on a crawl-and-index delay measured in months, and in the meantime the ungated surface costs hosting with no revenue attached to it.
