ProvenStartups indexes 49 revenue cases that name Claude Code and 5 that name GitHub Copilot. Read the five and it gets starker: only one was actually built with Copilot. That is not a verdict on the tools — it measures which tool's users publish revenue numbers. Treat the Copilot column as thin evidence, not a scoreboard.

Which side has more revenue evidence, and what does that prove?
Claude Code, 49 cases to 5. The honest version is sharper. Of those five Copilot records, only BlogToPin names GitHub Copilot as the tool the product was built with. The other four mention Copilot as a rival, a sales objection, a product name, or a tool that did not exist yet.
That matters because of what the count measures. Across 406 indexed cases, a project joins a tool's set when the tool is named anywhere in its record. The number tracks disclosure — who said out loud what they built with and what it earns — not productivity.
Named in order: Windsurf maps Copilot as competition; the Claude corporate training service meets it as a procurement objection; Enderance predates it; Atlas simply calls itself an AI e-commerce copilot.
One real build, four false positives — we would rather show that than pad the column, as with the rest of our AI coding tools coverage.

What do the top cases on each side report earning?
Among verified Claude Code cases the reported range runs from about $100 MRR to $30K/mo, with one operator adding just under $40K MRR in services on top. The single genuine Copilot build reports $16K MRR. Below: five rows a side — all of the Copilot set, a selection from 49.
Evidence grades: ✅ third-party verified · 🗣 founder-reported · 📎 creator-relayed · 🔮 unproven.
| Case | What the tool actually did | Reported result | Evidence | Tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BlogToPin | Built with GitHub Copilot | $16K MRR · 400+ subscribers | 🗣 | Tier 1 |
| Atlas | The product's own name | $250K+/mo MRR | 🗣 | Tier 2 |
| Windsurf (Codeium) | Named as a competitor | $1.3B valuation · 1M+ developers | ✅ | Tier 3 |
| Enderance | Built before Copilot existed | $119K lifetime · 1M+ Android downloads | 🗣 | Tier 2 |
| Claude team training | A sales objection | Quotable at $10K–40K per engagement | 🔮 | Tier 2 |
| Profit AI | Main build tool | $30K MRR app, just under $40K MRR services | ✅ | Tier 1 |
| Subscribr | ~90% of the code | $30K/mo | ✅ | Tier 2 |
| BridgeMind | In the build stack | $20,200 MRR · $242,964 ARR | ✅ | Tier 2 |
| Payout | Core features | $20K/mo, reached in 50 days | ✅ | Tier 2 |
| Fluently | Primary development driver | ~$100 MRR | ✅ | Tier 2 |
Do not average this table. Atlas and Windsurf are scale references that merely contain the word; Fluently holds the same verified grade as a $30K/mo business at roughly $100 MRR. A grade says how much to trust a figure, not how big it is.
BlogToPin dates the whole argument. Nick had the idea in December 2023 while still employed and built it on nights and weekends with GitHub Copilot, because Cursor and Claude Code did not exist yet; shipping took about two months. Our verdict on that record says the same product is buildable in a couple of weeks with Claude Code today. Copilot's evidence is thin here partly because its era of solo builds predates this corpus.
Where do the cases on each side cluster?
Claude Code cases cluster in software you sell: 15 SaaS, 9 AI services, 6 consumer apps and 5 directory sites, with 37 of the 49 records describing a solo or solo-led build. By tier, 26 are Replicable, 15 are Copy This Now and 8 are Watch the Space. The Copilot set is too small to have a shape.
The solo skew is what we would act on: a tool that holds a whole repository favours the person with nobody to delegate to. The apps built with Claude Code breakdown has the long version.
For the record, the Copilot five are two platform plugins, one scale reference, one AI service and one consumer app, three of them solo. Five records cannot support a category chart, so we will not draw one.

What do the evidence grades say about each side?
Claude Code grades out at 10 ✅ verified, 21 🗣 founder-reported, 8 📎 creator-relayed and 10 🔮 unproven. Copilot is 1 ✅, 3 🗣 and 1 🔮 — and its single verified case is Windsurf, a company that appears only because a competitor was named in its market map.
So the verified count for real Copilot builds is zero, and BlogToPin's $16K MRR is founder-reported — a fine grade for a solo SaaS, since most of this dataset is, but nobody should quote a "Copilot businesses earn X" figure, us included.
The useful Claude Code cases are the mid-sized verified ones: Payout at $20K/mo in 50 days, Subscribr at $30K/mo with roughly 90% of its code written by the tool, Fluently at about $100 MRR as the floor. Verified means someone outside the founder saw the number, not that the business works.
Which tool should you pick for your situation?
Pick by the work in front of you, not by our case counts. Claude Code's cases are overwhelmingly solo operators building whole products from nothing. Copilot's strength — completing code inside a large existing repository, under someone else's review — produces almost no indie revenue stories, which is a sampling artifact rather than a weakness.
- ·Shipping alone, from an empty folder. Claude Code is where the volume is, and the case shape matches your job. Start with what Claude Code is, then the Anthropic documentation.
- ·Employed, in a shared codebase with review gates. Copilot lives inside that workflow; check GitHub's own Copilot docs rather than our index, which cannot grade what it never recorded.
- ·Non-technical, selling an outcome. The tool barely matters. Profit AI's founder is non-technical, and the Claude Code local SEO service sells retainers on industry knowledge, not code.

What can these numbers not tell you?
Three limits, plainly. We only index businesses that published figures on camera, so the dataset over-represents people comfortable talking about money. Tool attribution comes from what founders said, not from commit history. And a tool named in a record is not always the tool that built the product.
That cuts both ways. The biggest number on the Claude Code side, a $500K/mo niche identifier app portfolio, was earned without it — the tutorial only demonstrates cloning that app, and the clone has no revenue of its own. Two of the five Copilot records sit in the Claude Code set too. Builders use several tools; keyword sets do not.
Our position: tool choice is one of the smallest decisions here. Distribution, a paid pain and a reachable buyer decide the outcome, and no completion engine supplies those. More in AI coding tools, including the revenue-ranked comparison.
Frequently asked questions
Is Claude Code better than GitHub Copilot?
This dataset cannot answer that, and anyone claiming it can is selling something. We hold 49 cases naming Claude Code and 5 naming Copilot, but those are disclosure counts from video breakdowns, not a controlled trial. Choose on your actual workflow: greenfield solo building versus completions inside a large shared repository.
How many GitHub Copilot businesses does ProvenStartups track?
One with a real revenue figure. Five records mention Copilot, but four name it as a competitor, a sales objection, a product name, or a tool that did not exist when the product was built. Only BlogToPin reports being built with Copilot, at $16K MRR, founder-reported.
Can you still build a $10K/mo product with GitHub Copilot?
Yes, on this evidence. BlogToPin passed $16K MRR on a product built with Copilot on nights and weekends, and the constraint was never the autocomplete. Shipping took about two months, then years of writing articles and grinding backlinks. The build tool changed what those months cost; it did not create demand.
Which Claude Code case is the best solo benchmark?
Payout, at $20K/mo reached in 50 days with third-party verification, a consumer app where Claude Code built the core features. Subscribr is the better read on tooling: roughly 90% of its code came from the tool, at $30K/mo. Fluently, at about $100 MRR, is the reminder that a verified grade says nothing about size.
Does a verified grade mean the business is safe to copy?
No. Verified means an outside source confirmed the stated figure. It says nothing about churn, margins, market size, or whether the niche is taken. Founder-reported and creator-relayed figures are not lies, just weaker claims; unproven means the number was never shown. Grades calibrate confidence, not opportunity.
