The key realization here: the downstream side of dropshipping (opening your own store and selling goods) has long been a red ocean where ad costs make positive profit very hard, and $1.7M is GMV, not net profit. He even wheels out a Shopify-issued “100,000 orders” plaque as corroboration, yet never shows a dashboard screenshot of profit or ad spend. But the upstream — building the tool that opens a store for everyone in one click, teaching people how to use it, and collecting platform commissions and community fees along the way — is the genuinely stable, high-margin position. He has essentially packaged “selling shovels in a gold rush” as “let me teach you to pan for gold too.”
