A screen-time blocker that makes you pray before Instagram opens — one gimmick feature, one religious community, $40K a month.

PrayLock is the second app in Jason Lee's teardown of seven tiny apps clearing $40,000 a month or more, and it is the one with the widest gap between how simple it is and how much it earns. The product is a screen-time blocker. Before you can open Instagram, TikTok, or a game, the app makes you complete a task first — in PrayLock's case, saying a prayer. That is essentially the entire feature set. Lee is blunt about it: "There's not a lot of other features in the app. It will just lock your social media app until you perform certain task." What makes it work is the framing. A generic app blocker feels like punishment, and punishment apps have terrible retention because users uninstall the thing that is annoying them. PrayLock inverts that. The gate is a thing the user already wants to do more of. As Lee puts it, "Although it feels like punishment, it's actually promoting something healthy." For a practicing Christian, praying more and scrolling less are both goals they already hold. The app is not imposing a new behaviour; it is welding two existing intentions together. Our read: this is the cleanest example in the whole video of positioning doing the work that features usually have to do. Nothing about the code is hard. The entire business is a mechanic plus an audience.

The $40K/month figure comes from app revenue-estimation tools he cites in the video (Sensor Tower for mobile, TrustMRR for web), not from PrayLock's founders. No founder interview, no dashboard shown for this app specifically, no breakdown of price, subscriber count, or costs. The acquisition analysis in this entry is our inference from the general pattern the video describes, not a reported account of PrayLock's own channels.
