01The Full Story: Building a Product "In Reverse" From Cal AI's Bad Reviews

This project didn't start with inspiration — it started with a one-star review. The blockbuster calorie-tracking app "Cal AI" — photograph a dish and it calculates the calories, reportedly around $20M/year per the video — is a known public company and a proven money machine. But every blockbuster leaves needs unmet, and those "wanted but missing" items are hiding in its bad reviews. The creator in the video (Wealth Wisdom) didn't brainstorm an idea out of thin air. He used an AI agent (Manus 1.6 Max, deep-research tier) to crawl 500K+ Cal AI reviews on the App Store, Google Play and Reddit, and distill "what users love, what they complain about, what they want but don't have." Out of that he locked onto two real gaps: one, people want a finer macro breakdown (not just calories, but sugar and fiber); two, people want to plan what to make from the ingredients they already have, rather than logging everything from scratch. Built on those two gaps, Pantry Chef AI was designed as a "photograph your fridge" product: snap one photo, AI identifies which ingredients are in there (39 of them in the demo), then tells you — against your cutting/macro targets — which dishes you can make right now, with any missing items added to a shopping list in one tap. The whole app was assembled live with AI in the video as a demo: zero real users, zero revenue.
