A creator with 4.1M viewers timed six “get paid to scroll” side hustles with a stopwatch: 40 hours of work produced $0 she could actually withdraw, while the apps themselves rank in the App Store top 10.
measured earn rate ≈ $0.33/hour · FreeCash was #2 in the US App Store (22,000 ratings, 4.8 stars) · Swagbucks markets “$550 million+ redeemed by members” across 148,000 ratings

HopeScope noticed FreeCash sitting at #2 in the US App Store — an app whose entire pitch is that it pays you to scroll other apps — and decided to test six of these side hustles in one week on a burner phone with a temporary number and email, spending no money. Her benchmark was deliberately small: earn enough to throw a party for friends, meaning decorations, cheap food, drinks and a party favour. What she actually ended up with, in her own summary, was $0 she could withdraw for roughly 40 hours of work. Not zero earned — zero withdrawable, which is the important distinction. FreeCash accumulated $12.10 against a $25 minimum cashout. CashWalk produced 220 coins in a full day of walking, worth about 2 cents, against 10,000 coins needed for a $10 gift card. Swagbucks produced 548 Swagbucks (a Swagbuck is a cent) in two and a half hours of surveys, against a 1,500 SB redemption threshold. Pawns paid 5 cents for a game milestone that the ad had priced at $5. We list this as a cautionary tale rather than a business idea because the numbers cut both ways. The earner side is a trap. The operator side is clearly not: FreeCash was the second most downloaded app in the country during the test, and its ads were running inside the other reward apps she tried, which tells you how much it can afford to pay for a user.

The earn-rate figure of about 33 cents an hour is her own arithmetic on her own sessions, and the step-count comparison used a manual clicker as a control, which is the strongest evidence in the video. Store rankings and rating counts were read off the App Store on camera. Swagbucks' “$550 million+ redeemed” is the company's own marketing claim, not audited, and it describes payouts to members rather than company revenue — no operator revenue for any of these apps was disclosed or verified. FreeCash being #2 in the App Store is a ranking, not a revenue figure. Nothing here establishes how profitable the offerwall operators are; it establishes only what the user side pays.
