Peter Levels is a Dutchman with no employees, no funding, and no team — one person, one laptop, roughly RMB 20M a year. Those are the figures a Bilibili creator relays from his four-hour interview with Lex Fridman and his 200-page founder handbook. His best-known product, NomadList, started about as ordinarily as it gets: he wanted to find cities that were cheap, had fast internet, and were livable, so he threw together a comparison spreadsheet of 25 cities listing the metrics he actually cared about — cost of living, internet speed, climate, safety. He casually posted that half-finished spreadsheet to X (Twitter) and it took off. Strangers kept adding cities and suggesting new metrics, and the demand snowballed. When the data outgrew a spreadsheet, he simply turned it into a website. Even the launch had a dramatic streak — a slip of the hand pushed a config to the server by mistake, the site went live unexpectedly early that day, and users submitted it to Product Hunt themselves, where it hit #1 for the day and top-5 all-time. Riding the momentum, he posted it to Hacker News, where it topped the front page to glowing reviews. Forbes covered it soon after, and Tim Ferriss (author of The 4-Hour Workweek) and WordPress's founder shared it — roughly 50,000 users with zero ad spend. From there it evolved from a city-filtering tool into a digital nomad community with a $99 lifetime membership. That one product alone now brings in around $20K a month from roughly 40,000 members.
