Ann McFerran started Glamnetic after years of wearing lashes and helping friends apply them. Magnetic lashes sounded easier, but early versions did not clip on reliably, so she researched product development online and contacted Asian manufacturers. She said getting consistent magnets and adhesive took repeated supplier work. The brand launched with five lash styles, magnetic eyeliner and accessories; she held about 100 units of each product. Unit cost was about $4 and retail pricing ranged from $15 to $30. Glamnetic made about $1,000 on its first day. McFerrin had grown an Instagram meme page to roughly 10,000 followers, renamed it for the brand, teased the launch for a month and saw six buyers. Founder-shot demonstrations became paid ads after she hired an Upwork media buyer. The interviewer reports $50 million in revenue for the prior year and more than $100 million in sales over the prior two years. McFerrin says Ulta reached out in 2020; the brand entered 1,400 stores.
