14 videos, 103 subscribers, 4,000 views and $94 in affiliate commissions for 30-40 hours of work — roughly $3 an hour, published honestly by the person who ran the experiment.
103 subscribers · 4,000 views · 14 videos · 30-40 hours invested · ~$3/hour · $280 spent on editing ($20 × 14 videos)
Fewer bars = easier, cheaper, or faster for an AI-assisted solo builder. Editorial judgments based on the case details.
The premise is a dare: "main channel Matt dared me to run a completely automated, faceless YouTube channel for 30 days and document everything, the revenue, the views, the time invested, all of it. And I said, Matt, people are going to call this fake. And he said, 'Then show them the receipts.'" The setup: a brand-new channel from zero subscribers, automation tools for scripting, voiceover and editing, consistent posting, every metric tracked. The stated goal was not virality — "It was to see if you could realistically build a profitable faceless channel using automation in just one month." The niche was chosen for monetisation rather than passion: AI tool tutorials and reviews, picked because "it's a growing niche. The audience is hungry for content and there are tons of affiliate opportunities. Plus, I already know this space." The channel was named Tech Automation Insider, with a logo and banner made in Canva in about twenty minutes. His own note on that: "Beginners overthink branding. Your branding doesn't need to be perfect on day one." The result after 30 days: 14 videos, 103 subscribers, just over 4,000 total views, and $94 in affiliate commissions, against 30-40 hours of work. His verdict on the hourly rate is quoted above and it is the reason this entry exists. Very few people publish the losing version of this experiment.

All figures are stated verbally and no dashboard screenshots are described in the transcript, so nothing is independently verified. The numbers are small, specific, internally consistent across the weekly checkpoints, and unflattering — a combination that argues strongly for honesty. Two transcription artefacts should be flagged: the automatic captions render the final subscriber and view counts as "$103" and "$4,000", which the surrounding sentences make clear are 103 subscribers and 4,000 views rather than dollar amounts; and the scripting tool is rendered as "Vid AI" and ElevenLabs as "11 Labs", so exact product names may differ slightly from what was said. The $94 is affiliate commission only, gross, with no deduction for the $280 of Fiverr editing or the 30-40 hours of labour. The collaborator's "5 figures per month across multiple faceless channels" is a second-hand claim with no evidence at all, and the assertion that the 14 videos will keep earning for years is a forward-looking hypothesis, not a measured outcome.
