Rebuilt the played-out affirmation app specifically for Nordics living through four-hour winter daylight, then hit a few thousand dollars a month with onboarding conversion + TikTok ads
The app itself is a single feature you could clone in a week — the real moat is the onboarding funnel and ad optimization. The founder says it outright: over 80% of conversions happen during onboarding, and the app itself matters far less.
Fewer bars = easier, cheaper, or faster for an AI-assisted solo builder. Editorial judgments based on the case details.
Arthur is a 20-year-old French CS senior working a remote internship while running a personal challenge: build an app from scratch that hits $2,000 in monthly profit. Before this he co-founded an AI startup for doctors, raised money, and spent months heads-down building — and it failed completely. The reason: they never talked to users, ignored market fit, and shipped a pile of features nobody wanted. That failure taught him one thing: you don't need a perfect idea, you don't need funding, you don't need to know everything — you just need to start. He thought this challenge would take 30 days; between Apple review, a content strategy that blew up, and one stretch where everything went to zero and he thought it was over, it dragged out to nearly 60 days. He documented the whole thing publicly: how he found the idea, how he built it, how he failed, and how he iterated until people actually paid. No fake timelines, no VC money, no viral moment — just a student with a $200 ad budget, testing until something worked.
He bought the cold start rather than earning it. At launch the app was made completely free with lifetime pro access, explicitly trading revenue for downloads and App Store ratings, because Apple's ranking responds to recent reviews.

Data credibility: The creator shows RevenueCat/App Store Connect screenshots: roughly $2,800 in revenue over the last 28 days, 66 active subscriptions, 46 trials. The $2,000 profit target was reached only after a large volume of free TikTok ad credits (about $360 offset), not through purely organic profitability. All figures come from the creator's own video commentary and screenshots and have not been independently verified. All revenue figures are founder-reported or estimated by the video creator, unaudited.
Two prices: $10 a month, or $40 a year with a three-day free trial, the yearly plan preferred because it buys commitment, with separate price points set for each Nordic currency. RevenueCat handles receipts and is free below $2,500 a month, and Apple's Small Business Program cuts the store's take from 30% to 15%.
Every gain after launch came from instrumenting the funnel rather than improving the product. He ran a four-variant onboarding experiment in PostHog — the full flow, one with a screen removed, one with fewer personalisation questions, one with questions cut elsewhere — measuring completion and conversion separately.
Day 22 is the low point. Fifteen TikToks, two of them past 2,000 views, two trial signups, both cancelled immediately.
