E-Webinar is Melissa Kwan’s third startup and a product-led B2B SaaS company built around an unglamorous pain: founders and sales teams do not want to deliver the same webinar or demo over and over. The platform lets a customer watch an automated webinar, with the product itself used to deliver the demo. Kwan said the business was profitable and had reached $1.5M in annual recurring revenue. It took about two years before the first version was shown to anyone, including roughly six months spent on branding and the website. The company started with plans priced at $49, $99 and $199, then doubled new-customer pricing after the product became strong enough to justify comparison with more expensive options. Conversion from trial to paid fell from about 60% to 30%–40%, but the customers who did pay stayed longer and needed less support; support tickets fell by 70%. The current starting point was about $100, with add-ons from $29 to $179. If only 2%–5% of customers buy an add-on, Kwan said that can add $5K–$10K per month. Growth became a marketing problem: SEO, content, LinkedIn, partnerships and audience building mattered more than adding another feature.
