The Base44 story comes from founder Maor Shlomo's own account on Lenny's podcast, layered on top of the public fact of the Wix acquisition, which puts its evidence grade at "verified." It's a case that borders on myth: one Israeli programmer, working alone, built a vibe coding platform in 6 months and was ultimately acquired by website-builder giant Wix for roughly $80M. The growth curve is equally outrageous: $1M ARR three weeks after launch, $1.5M ARR at four weeks, monthly profit approaching $200K by May, and around 400K cumulative users. Nearly all of it happened with a zero paid-marketing budget, carried by the product's own retention and word of mouth. Even more counterintuitive is how he built it: the founder says he went three months without writing a single line of JavaScript or HTML. What he actually did was "use AI to manage a team of AIs that write code" — not writing code, but directing code generation. He even built internal business apps on Base44 itself for managing users, issuing credits, and writing social posts. But let's be clear up front: this case is an extreme outcome stacked from a window of opportunity plus top-tier individual ability. It works better as a methodological benchmark than as something an ordinary person can directly replicate.
