Five brothers put £600 into a boot-sale fragrance stall in East London and built a halal perfume chain with 20+ shopping-centre stores — no bank loans, no interest, no external investment
profit margin 10-25% · the founder also states 'we generate about 50 million in revenue at the moment' — the two figures are inconsistent and we flag it rather than pick one · stuck just under £1M from 2011 to 2019, then £2M to £15M in three to four years · 20+ stores · individual stores taking £3,000-5,000 a day · first market-stall day: £27 · £600 of startup capital
Their religious rule against interest removed the entire conventional financing path, so to get a kiosk in Westfield Stratford they raised roughly £30,000 in interest-free short-term loans from their parents' and brother's friends — and the constraint turned out to be the discipline.

One of Abid's brothers was studying in Cairo and had assembled a collection of fragrances. Five brothers wanted to start a business and had, in Abid's words, "no resources, no capital, no funds, nothing like that." They pooled £600, opened the car boot at a small local event in East London, and sold perfume. The first day took about £27. Then they moved to Whitechapel Market and were surprised: "we were making like 500, 600 a day on some days." The first real leap was Westfield Stratford in 2011 — at the time one of the largest and busiest urban shopping centres in Europe. They had no money to get to that level, so they borrowed roughly £30,000 interest-free from family friends to build a kiosk. Abid is candid that it did not immediately work: "we thought we're going to make X out today and that didn't happen." It pushed them to upgrade bags, packaging and product presentation, and within about a year real money started coming in. Then came eight flat years. From 2011 to 2019 they were "consistently making just under a million and we couldn't get over that barrier." Once they resolved whatever was holding them back, the curve changed sharply: between 2019 and now — three to four years, by his count — they went from £2 million to £15 million. Today: 20+ stores, mostly inside shopping centres, with a flagship on Aldgate East chosen deliberately because that is where the boot sales happened. Two 6,000 sq ft warehouse units. Stores in France, the Netherlands, Sweden and Germany, some owned and some franchised. Raw fragrance ingredients sourced from Zurich, blending and filling in Yorkshire, distribution from London by their own vans.
Five brothers put £600 together, opened the boot of a car at a small local event around the corner in East London, and sold the fragrance collection one of them had assembled while studying in Cairo. The first day took about £27.

Data credibility: Founder interview in a brand-documentary format, filmed on location at the company's warehouse and flagship store. No accounts, dashboard, filing or third-party data appears at any point; everything is self-reported. THE HEADLINE FIGURES DO NOT RECONCILE AND WE ARE NOT SMOOTHING IT. The video's opening narration says the business "is making £50 million a year," and Abid says on camera "we generate about 50 million in revenue at the moment." He also says twice that "this year we're looking to end on £15 million net sales" and describes going "from a company making 2 million to 15 million" between 2019 and now. We have led with £15M net sales because it is stated more specifically and repeated, and we record the £50M claim without adopting it. The video's own title separately renders the figure in dollars ($15M/Year) while every number spoken is in pounds. Figures kept in the original currency because the transcript never converts: £600 of startup capital, about £27 on the first day, £500-600 a day at Whitechapel Market, roughly £30,000 raised interest-free for the Westfield Stratford kiosk in 2011, £3,000-5,000 a day per store, a 10-25% profit margin, roughly £80,000 for the first 6,000 sq ft warehouse unit and about £90,000 for the second, a 900 sq ft original unit in Valance Road, over £150,000 on the Aldgate East refit, 20+ stores, 70+ fragrances before the current range cut, consistently just under £1M from 2011 to 2019, and a stated goal of £100 million within five to seven years. Region is the United Kingdom: East London specifically, with the origin at Whitechapel Market and boot sales in the Aldgate East area, the flagship on Aldgate East beside East London Mosque, warehousing in East London (previously Bethnal Green), blending and filling in Yorkshire, and raw fragrance ingredients sourced from Zurich. International stores are stated in France, the Netherlands, Sweden and Germany. The founder's name is given in the video title as Kazi Abidur and he is addressed throughout as Abid; the brand is rendered by the auto-captions variously as Sunnamusk, Sun Musk, S musk and Sunamas.
The first day took about £27, out of a car boot at a small local event in East London. What sold was perfume from the collection the second brother had put together in Cairo, to whoever happened to be walking past.
In owned retail the flywheel is mechanical: a store takes £3,000 to £5,000 a day, the margin on that funds the next fit-out, and each new site makes the name familiar enough that the one after it opens warmer.
Eight years, precisely dated: from 2011 to 2019 they were consistently making just under a million and could not get over that barrier. Abid names the cause plainly, which is capital.
