Livestorm began as a 2016 university project. Jill and three cofounders were interface and web-design engineers, not video specialists, so they used browser technology to build the experience around a webinar: registration, communication, integrations, and analytics. A school presentation drew hundreds of participants and positive feedback, prompting the team to continue. The first public-facing webinar had an embarrassing bug that put the CTO on stage instead of the invited marketing executive; that company still became a customer and stayed for four or five years. The team initially gathered a few hundred interested contacts by asking likely users to test a prototype. The founder describes the first five or six years as mostly inbound, driven by search content, Quora answers, partner audiences, and the product’s attendee-to-host exposure. During COVID, ARR rose from around 2 million to nearly 9 million in 2020, while usage and support demand surged. Later the team narrowed from broad webinar and meeting use cases to enterprise webinar marketing in Europe. At interview time, revenue was approaching 20 million and the business had about 3,500 customers; the currency for that current figure was not specified.
For Livestorm, the first customers came from small, specific online pockets rather than a large launch. The team collected a few hundred emails by contacting likely webinar users on Twitter and offering access to a prototype for feedback.

Data credibility: Founder interview. The founder reported current revenue approaching 20 million and about 3,500 customers; the currency for the current figure was not specified. The transcript also reports about 9 million ARR in 2020 and historical euro-denominated ARR before then. These figures are not independently audited in the interview.
Livestorm’s first dollar arrived as a self-serve inbound subscription: a notification showed that a person from the small French technology Facebook group had paid.
The product’s built-in audience loop helped Livestorm turn one host into many product exposures. A webinar host invites participants; participants see the browser-based experience and can later become hosts themselves.
A webinar company needs to withstand long periods when search content, product changes, and customer conversations produce little visible return.
