Carrd Revenue: Which Numbers Did the Founder Confirm?
Separate Carrd's founder-confirmed milestones from creator estimates, current annual plan prices, site counts, and unknown present revenue.
Carrd has founder-confirmed historical revenue milestones, but we did not verify a current 2026 revenue total. AJ reported more than $1M ARR in April 2021. A later SaaS Club interview describes more than $100K MRR at recording. A separate creator account estimates just over $2M ARR; that is a different evidence grade.
The distinction matters if you are studying Carrd as a business to learn from. A low-priced website builder can be a substantial company, but neither a large site count nor an old revenue headline tells you today's customer mix, profit, or support load.

Which Carrd revenue numbers are attributable?
The strongest figures in this review come from the founder's own statements and an interview with him. They support historical milestones, not an automatic estimate of present revenue.
| Evidence | Reported figure | Time basis | How to read it |
|---|---|---|---|
| AJ's Indie Hackers AMA | More than $1M ARR | April 30, 2021 | Founder-reported, unaudited |
| SaaS Club interview, episode 306 | More than $100K MRR | At the historical interview's recording | Founder interview; not today's dashboard |
| MicroConf presentation | Just over $2M ARR | Creator's retrospective; precise metric date not established here | Creator-reported estimate |
The interview's monthly figure corresponds to more than $1.2M annualized, using twelve months. That arithmetic does not establish a full year's recognized revenue. It also does not contradict an earlier $1M milestone: snapshots can differ without either being a complete annual financial statement.
We reviewed these materials on October 15, 2026. A webpage's recent crawl date is not the date of its underlying revenue statement. When a report leaves the measurement period unclear, retain that uncertainty instead of assigning the current year.

Why does the project record mention a larger figure?
The ProvenStartups record preserves the MicroConf creator's account, which uses tentative language about just over $2M ARR. It should not be silently promoted into a newer founder-confirmed disclosure.
In the original presentation, John Ndege explains that he reviewed Carrd's past posts and interviews. His account is useful secondary analysis, but it is not a direct statement from AJ about a specified reporting period. The Carrd project record therefore uses the Creator-Reported evidence label.
A reader should be able to hold two conclusions at once: the source offers a credible operating story worth investigating, and its largest number does not meet the same standard as a dated founder disclosure. Research becomes less reliable when the biggest available figure automatically wins.
For your own comparison sheet, add four fields beside every amount: metric, period, speaker, and source link. Our private-company revenue guide explains how that small discipline prevents estimates from becoming supposed facts through repetition.
Can you infer revenue from Carrd's website count?
No. Published websites, user accounts, paid accounts, and subscription plans are different units. One person may manage several sites, and many users may remain on a free offer.
AJ's April 2021 AMA reported 2.5 million sites created by about 1.6 million users. The two totals already demonstrate why “sites” cannot be treated as “customers.” Neither total gives the paid plan mix needed to reconstruct revenue.
This is especially important when comparing creation tools. A tool that supports several outputs per account can grow its visible footprint without adding an equal number of subscribers. The footprint may help distribution, but that does not make each published output a recurring charge.
Apply the same discipline to Tally's revenue milestones. A form user and a website account are not interchangeable denominators. Compare disclosed revenue measures directly, then investigate the operational differences separately.
What does Carrd's low annual price tell you?
It tells you the advertised price of particular plans, not the average revenue per customer or the profitability of the whole company. Current public pricing helps explain the offer, but cannot reconstruct undisclosed accounts.
On October 15, 2026, Carrd's official plan documentation listed base plans in US dollars at $9 per year for Pro Lite, $19 for Pro Standard, and $49 for Pro Plus, alongside the free Basic experience. Standard includes custom domains and forms; Plus adds more advanced capabilities. These are annual base-plan prices, not monthly fees or a universal checkout total.
Here is a deliberately hypothetical calculation. If a separate business sold 10,000 annual subscriptions at $19, that would be $190,000 in annual subscription charges before adjustments. Dividing by twelve gives about $15,833 in monthly equivalent. It would still be wrong to call that the business's monthly cash receipts or profit.
Carrd's actual mix, upgrades, payment timing, expenses, and adjustments are not supplied by that calculation. Do not divide a reported ARR figure by one advertised tier and present the answer as its verified customer count.

Was Carrd always a one-person, unfunded business?
No. The founder's public account describes a progression rather than a permanent solo-business label. By the April 2021 AMA, AJ identified himself with development and product and Doni with operations, and said the company was partly venture-funded.
That first-person account is enough to reject an unqualified claim that the entire later business operated without colleagues or outside funding. It does not imply that the earliest product required the same structure.
This changes the lesson for an independent builder. Study what was feasible at the stage you are trying to reach. An early prototype, a growing paid service, and a product hosting millions of sites face different operating demands. The founder's earlier speed does not erase later responsibilities.
The key-person-risk guide helps identify which tasks depend on one person. The support workflow for solo founders makes another constraint explicit: a low subscription price cannot support unlimited personal assistance without a capacity plan.
What should a founder copy from this case?
Copy a question worth testing, not a price or revenue target. Carrd is useful evidence for a focused creation tool with a paid upgrade boundary, but it does not establish that every simple tool can reproduce the result.
The SaaS Club interview describes a product that began as a side project and later supported a substantial recurring business. Use that story to investigate the relationship between a narrowly defined job, an easy first experience, and the ongoing service the founder must maintain.
Before choosing a similar idea, write down:
- 1.The exact result a buyer can publish or use.
- 2.What the free version completes satisfactorily.
- 3.The paid requirement that appears naturally afterward.
- 4.The cost of maintaining an account and its outputs.
- 5.What happens when the customer needs help or wants to leave.
Then seek evidence for each line in the underlying project, rather than assuming a successful headline answers all five. The freemium analysis is a useful companion for that decision. A paid boundary is a product choice with operational consequences, not a guarantee of conversion.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Carrd's current revenue?
A current 2026 total was not verified in this review. The article separates dated founder milestones from a larger creator-reported estimate instead of treating the latest-looking search result as current financial data.
Is the $2M ARR figure independently verified?
Not by the material reviewed here. The cited MicroConf presentation is a creator's retrospective. Keep its attribution and uncertain measurement date when using the number.
Is Carrd a solo business?
That description needs a date. AJ's 2021 account already described separate product and operations roles. A company's origin story should not be treated as a permanent statement about its staffing.
Can I divide ARR by the $19 plan to count customers?
No. That assumes every customer buys one identical plan, with no changes, discounts, upgrades, or adjustments. The advertised price does not establish the company's actual subscription mix.
